Everyone either loves the Ekka or hates it. My boys and I are most definitely in the "love the Ekka" camp. We go pretty much every year and revel in the sights, the sounds, the smells, the crowds, the junk food and the search for the "Ekka moment". That is the one experience of the whole visit that just leaves you wondering where else could you go to see or do this. This year the Ekka moment was The League of Sideshow Legends. Basically an old-fashioned freak show. And we only stumbled upon it because we were trying to escape the rain. There was a guy swallowing a sword and sticking a Black & Decker drill up his nose. A girl squeezing herself into a tiny box. A strongman pulling another person on a trolley with his tongue and finally a guy lifting a car battery suspended on chains attached to his nipples. Now where else could you go to see all that. But apart from that there were rides, showbags, monster trucks, freestyle motocross, cattle musterers, fireworks. Only lost Lucas a few times.
The boys were so well behaved. Nice to each other, respectful of budget limitations, no fighting or sulking. It was an absolute joy to hang out with them. Bit worried I had the wrong kids with me for awhile there.
The next morning it was murder and mayhem. Situation normal again.
